The Smith Building 289-295 Greenwich Avenue

Ancient Romans left western civilization legacies of law and architectural order. But, as heirs to the legacy of the ancient Greek art of architecture, the Romans also elevated classic architecture to the fine art of engineering.  The classic design of The Smith Building, an early twentieth century Neo Classical-influenced work of architecture designed by William J. Smith, references architecture of antique Rome with its alignment of distinguishing fluted modified Doric columns bordering two continuous sides of the structure located at 289-295 Greenwich Avenue.

Bisharat, Architect GTE Building Stamford, Connecticut Sol Lewitt, Artist| Pyramid Mural The Brooklyn Museum New York, New York  Only one part of vast ancient Egyptian funerary complexes composed of religious temples and other geometry-based structures, pyramids were designed in close proximity with Egyptian royal palaces.  While popularly associated with the architecture of ancient Egypt, the stylistic influence of the triangular-shaped pyramid (typically four-sided but designs are also known to have eight sides) has traversed the the span of time, and the boundaries of geography, in adaptations of the traditional pyramid form in interdisciplinary works of fine and applied art in design, painting, and architecture.
